Eco-Landscaping
In June 2003, 8T&B and many supportive individuals and organizations completed the installation of a major environmental demonstration eco-landscape at the new Ipswich Group Home on Route 133 in Ipswich. Using plants native to Essex County, with close attention to siting and composting, the volunteer designers and landscapers created a landscape independent of fertilizers, pesticides, and, once established, with no need for watering. The one-acre site is a beautiful example of eco-landscaping with a state-of-the-art catchement system for collecting roof runoff for watering and infiltration, and an organic "eco-lawn". In addition to providing cost and water savings to the town, it will serve to educate others about alternatives to water and chemical dependent landscape design.
